Incheon National University (INU), led by President Injae Lee, provided comprehensive support for the successful hosting of the 2026 Incheon Songdo International Marathon, held near the main gate of its Songdo Campus on September 20, including the opening of campus facilities and assistance with parking, traffic control, and safety management.

Ahead of the event, INU established a support plan led by the Office of Public Relations and built a coordinated support system involving relevant departments, including General Affairs, Finance and Accounting, Facilities Management, and Student Support. The race started in front of the main gate of INU’s Songdo Campus and featured half-marathon, 10 km, and 5 km events.

From the day before the race through race day, the University supported the installation and operation of event facilities around the University Administration Building and main gate. It also coordinated with relevant departments to ensure smooth cleanup and restoration of the campus after the event.

To minimize safety risks and traffic congestion caused by the large number of participants, INU also supported campus road closures and vehicle access management. Roads around the main gate and event area were controlled beginning during event preparations. On race day, vehicle traffic was restricted around the North Gates 1 and 2 and the Solchan Park section of the marathon course, while campus vehicles were directed to enter through South Gates 1 and 2.

The University further supported event operations by assigning responsibilities among relevant departments for security, campus access management, traffic control, and notices regarding changes to city bus services.

Alongside its operational support, INU conducted on-site promotional activities to engage participants and local residents and raise awareness of the University’s official social media channels and major initiatives. The University offered cooling patches and INU promotional items to new followers and subscribers of its official Instagram and YouTube channels. During the event, the University gained a total of 307 new YouTube subscribers and Instagram followers.

INU also operated a promotional booth for its initiative to establish a public medical school (Graduate School of Medicine), providing visitors with information on the need for the school and the progress of the initiative. A total of 504 people signed a petition supporting its establishment. Incheon Metropolitan Council members Chae-hoon Jeong and Min-kyung Cho also visited the booth, joined the signature campaign, and received a briefing on INU’s efforts to establish the public medical school.

Kim Kyu-won, Director of Planning at INU, said, “Multiple departments worked closely together to ensure that this large-scale regional event could be held safely and smoothly on our campus.” He added, “INU will continue to actively participate in and support major regional events and diverse community activities as a university that grows together with the local community.”

Hong Jin-bae, Head of INU’s Working-Level Task Force for the Establishment of a Public Medical School, said, “We sincerely appreciate the encouragement and interest shown by citizens of all ages who visited our public medical school promotion booth.” He added, “We ask for continued interest and support for the establishment of INU’s public medical school, which will help protect the health of Incheon citizens and strengthen essential and public healthcare in the region.”

INU plans to continue actively sharing its facilities and infrastructure with the local community while expanding cooperation and communication through participation in regional events and activities.
