Incheon Robotics Industry Promotion MOU

- University leadership demonstrates strong commitment to industry-academia collaboration through on-site visits to Yuil Robotics and the Robot Center

- Advancing toward becoming a global talent hub through national flagship projects and linkage with RoboCup 2026

Incheon National University (President In-jae Lee) is solidifying its position as a key hub for revitalizing the regional robotics industry ecosystem and supplying future talent through hands-on, field-oriented leadership. This move goes beyond conventional industry-academia cooperation and is viewed as a strategic step toward securing large-scale national projects, including designation as a Specialized University for Advanced Industries (Robotics) in 2026.

On January 29, Vice President for Academic Affairs Byung-jo Choi visited regional anchor company Yuil Robotics and the Incheon Technopark Robot Center to explore optimal intersections between education and industry. Guided by Yuil Robotics Executive Director Yong-ho Han, Vice President Choi toured the production lines and R&D center, engaging in in-depth discussions on the competencies most urgently needed in the field.

At the site, Executive Director Han emphasized the urgent need for professionals who understand manufacturing processes and can connect them to robotic automation, highlighting both technical sales capabilities and Sim-to-Real engineering expertise to design the “brains” of robots. He expressed hope that Incheon National University would serve as a “talent factory” continuously supplying such professionals. At the Incheon Technopark Robot Center, discussions with Center Director Gyu-hwan Han further addressed the future direction of the regional robotics industry and the university’s role, forming consensus on building an organically connected industry–academia–government robotics ecosystem.

These efforts are part of a carefully designed long-term strategy rather than a one-time initiative. The recent visits follow up on the Incheon Robotics Industry Promotion MOU signed last October among 13 institutions under the leadership of the Incheon Metropolitan Government. In addition, the university’s RISE Project Group is collaborating with robotics company L-Line to prepare for participation in RoboCup 2026, to be held in Incheon, enabling students to compete on the global stage beyond domestic demonstrations.

Gyu-won Kim, Director of Planning and Head of the RISE Project Group, stated, “Senior university administrators directly visiting industrial sites to examine technological trends and workforce demands clearly demonstrates Incheon National University’s strategic commitment to fostering the robotics industry.” He added, “By aligning education, research, and efforts to secure national projects under a unified vision, we aim to contribute to Incheon’s emergence as the central hub of Korea’s robotics industry.”

Incheon National University plans to further strengthen its education and research systems in advanced fields such as Physical AI and quadruped robotics, accelerating a dual-track strategy that cultivates both practice-oriented professionals who can immediately contribute to regional industries and research talent capable of securing long-term technological competitiveness.
