ICHATT 2025

Scholars and industry leaders from around the world gathered in Incheon for a major event dedicated to next-generation eco-friendly energy technologies.

From September 3 to 5, Incheon National University hosted the 2025 International Conference on Hydrogen and Ammonia Turbine Technology (ICHATT 2025) at its Songdo Campus. The conference centered on hydrogen- and ammonia-based gas turbine technologies, bringing together experts from academia, industry, and local government to share the latest research achievements, review industry trends, and explore avenues for future cooperation.

The opening ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Professor Min-cheol Lee, Director of the Carbon-Free Fuel Gas Turbine Innovation Research Center at Incheon National University. This was followed by keynote presentations: ▲Professor Jong-geun Lee (University of Cincinnati, USA) on Hydrogen Mixed Combustion Gas Turbine Technology; ▲Professor Rajesh Korla (IIT Hyderabad, India) on Lightweight Steel Research; and ▲Yong-bae Lee, Head of the Hydrogen Energy Team at Incheon Metropolitan City, who presented The Incheon Hydrogen Ecosystem Strategy, outlining a regional vision for energy transition.

Subsequent sessions featuring both industry and research institutes drew strong interest. ▲Professor Min-hyuk Lee (University of Tokyo, Japan) presented on ammonia flame-based steel surface nitriding technology; ▲Dr. Jung-joo Kim (Hanwha Aerospace) shared updates on aircraft gas turbine engine development; ▲Jeong-geuk Park, Project Team Leader for Clean Hydrogen Power Systems (KEPCO Research Institute), discussed R&D outcomes in hydrogen-ammonia co-firing gas turbines. In addition, ▲Dr. Seung-young Choi (University of Oxford, UK) presented research on turbine blade cooling performance, while ▲Heung-rak Park, CEO of IGE Co., delivered a presentation on The Future of Green Energy in Incheon, laying out strategies for regional eco-friendly energy industry development.

A highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Incheon National University, IGE Co.—the world’s largest liquefied hydrogen plant company—and An Materials, a specialist in liquefied hydrogen storage containers. The agreement aims to strengthen joint research, advance technology development, and cultivate talent in the energy sector.

According to the organizing committee, “ICHATT 2025 was a meaningful venue where both academic achievements and industrial visions in hydrogen and ammonia turbine technologies were showcased, marking an important milestone for international cooperation. The conference has paved the way for Incheon to establish itself as a global hub for eco-friendly energy.”

ICHATT 2025 achieved academic exchange, industrial collaboration, and community engagement simultaneously, and is expected to serve as a foundation for sustained international cooperation and technological innovation.
